The Sea Scout Ship Nautilus participated in the two major Sea Scout regattas held in May in Northern California: Old Salts Regatta, held May 2 to 4, 2025 at Coast Guard Island in Alameda and the Ancient Mariner Regatta, held over Memorial Day Weekend at California Maritime Academy.

A Sea Scout regatta has nautically themed events that require teamwork, planning, and practice. Activities range from navigation, where the Sea Scouts plot courses and positions, to sailing a triangular course, to first aid. A Sea Scout Regatta has between 18 to 26 events. A Ship can place in an event and earn a class award based on their scores in the regatta events.

The Nautilus recruited four new Sea Scouts since the 2024 regatta season. A significant amount of time was spent teaching the new Sea Scouts and practicing regatta events.

Our Sea Scouts worked extremely hard to prepare for both regattas, learning how to compute speed, time, distance problems in piloting to events like Boatswain’s Chair.

Regattas are a great way for Sea Scouts to learn leadership skills and make friends. Every competition has social activities, such as making smores.

The Nautilus Sea Scouts had a great regatta season and look forward to preparing for the next regatta season.
