The Sea Scout Ship Nautilus completed their first “Long Cruise.” A “Long Cruise” for Sea Scouts is like summer camp for a Scouts BSA Troop. Nautilus spent their Long Cruise in Truckee and Arnold for kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and making great memories.
The first half of the Long Cruise was in Truckee. The Sea Scouts stayed in a cabin close to Donner Lake. Boating was limited due to thunderstorms, but they were able to get on the water twice. The Sea Scouts also visited the Donner Memorial Museum.
The second half of the Long Cruise was in Arnold, where they had vastly better weather. The Scouts kayaked on White Pines Lake and practice anchoring drills.
Advancement is a cornerstone of Sea Scouting designed to get youth on the water. The Sea Scouts worked on their first rank of Apprentice, learning knots, safety equipment, and Scouting values including the Scout Oath and Law.
Galley was an amazing team building experience for the Sea Scouts, where they worked together to prepare each meal. And yes, everyone got their own chef hat.
The summer is just beginning along with more adventures planned. If you are in the Foster City area and have an interested youth who is a graduate of the 8th grade or at least 14, we are holding an open house on July 1.
